Holly fuck this is awesome "Two Thumbs Up!" ~ This Guy

SoundSpectre responds:

Thanks, glad you like it :)

I really like the melodies in here right off the bat! The sacaded drums actually give it a good groove too although they are sort of unorthodox. it almost seems like the song speeds up every time you play xD. not much to be said here... I wish this busted out into full real instrument mix with guitars even. that would be badass!

SoundGalaxyOfficial responds:

Thank you for your ideas!

I might arrange this small loop for real instruments, or maybe some more advanced synthy electronic music, yeah, you really made me think about it! :)

Thanks again!

Absolutely love this! Everything about it is just perfect. Is it okay if I do a remix of this? I know its just a teaser but I'm as excited about it as you are!

Troisnyx responds:

Sure, go for it!

These melodies are beautiful! So Beautiful!! I would love to finish this with you if you ever feel like it! :0

This is absolutely fantastic. I love your music so much you don't even understand. This track shows a style of yours I wasn't aware of. This song is so perfect other than when that awful trumpet sound came up i honestly just couldn't help but laugh. like rolling on the floor laughing xD. anyway with quality like this i have no idea how you're still on newgrounds.

D-Chain responds:

Thanks for the positive vibe bro!
the reason why i am still here is because i am content with my decision (staying on NG).
i have had 'big dreams' but they all get nullified due to my fear of big crowds.

most songs i do are therefore complete trash anyway and the ones who rise above everything
(like this song) come close to the tip of the mountain e.g. the extend of my skill.

but anyways..
Time has no limit, age is just a factor, quality is priceless and music never dies.

Hell Yeah! :D
I really like how you went for the authentic Japanese style intro here! Really adds to the ambiance of the track. I usually prefer a more mellow drum & bass vibe this this suited surprisingly well!

Instrumentation:
You got some nice instrumentation here accompanied by some stellar percussion that i can never seem to get right when it comes to drum & bass. The lead in the main synth in the drum & bass section could of been brighter in my opinion but that's really a taste issue. also the lack of a traditional Drum & Bass kind of disappointed me but again i'm just a huge fan of those.

Structure:
Definitely one of the strong points of your music in my opinion. The intro was just long enough to keep interested but progress the song correctly. the first speedy section came in at the perfect time and sounded great. The breakdown, very well placed although i suggest you try working with more cut off automations to give the track a more professional progression. I liked the break at 3:10 kicking back into overdrive, was a great touch.

Production Quality:
Everything was well EQed and controlled and although there were a lot of instruments playing at the same time in certain parts it wasn't overly chaotic. the snare could of been a bit more high oriented when it came to the drums as they were slightly loud/overwhelming but that might just be on my end.

Overall it was a great song with very original ideas. I look forward to hear more of your work my friend!

I would really appreciate it if you would take the time to listen to my latest track (Eternity)!

JandreParis responds:

Thank you, thank you!

Was definitely going for authentic Japanese (or at least as close to it as I could get!). I've been listening back to this often, and I think the main synth could surely use another pad in there to make it slightly fuller. Just a hole right in the mid-highs that's bothering me a bit, as full as it sounds now.

I was thinking of doing traditional DnB, but the traditional Japanese vision got in the way of that, so I had it play secondary -- forgo that idea for tastier soundscape.

As for structure, I have it down to a formula at this point. But formulas keep me too closed most times, so it's really a matter of playing around with how long each section should be when envisioning it as a whole. Keeps me always out of the box and experimenting more often! Automation is actually something I'm not too comfortable with, but I'm choosing to immerse myself into it because it's a tool, just like everything else, and if you don't use it, why have it there at all, y'know? My auto-game will be up there at some point ;)

Interesting that you say EQ... most of this was just level control with very little EQ involved. The objective for this one was to be as sparse as possible and use when needed. Only one compressor, and that was for drums, and the rest was with brushstroke EQs that didn't do much but roughly shape and mold. And 'course, pre/post-master stuff. Though, I will concede, those drums were quite difficult to tame, especially because I like them to be in your face often. I'll probably tone them down and give 'em an EQ for brightness.

Thank you kindly!

Gave me chills at 1:07! Epic track! wish the the hits in the beginning were a bit more bass centered like in the movie and maybe the trombone at the beggining could have some kind of bass instrument reinforcing it but besides that everything was amazing in this. Keep making music buddy!
Oh and If you like trance/house check out my awesome new song :3

Jakey-San responds:

Thanks for the feedback! I see what you mean about the drums. What happened was that I started out with a lot of low end, but I may have stacked on too many layers and the compression squashed/drowned out the lows. Definitely something I'll keep track of in the future.

dope rhymes. studio that shit

kenhandra responds:

Thanks man I will once I get my popularity increased, but stay tuned for more tunes.

Some great baroque/orchestral work here :D I could almost hear this in great medieval movie, although the pace seems a bit fast for that.

You have some excellent instrumentation here with some epic, if not overwhelming, sound effects. The percussions you use really hit home with the combination of toms, shakers and claps and even some chorus chanting for rythmes in certain areas which i thought was an excellent touch. My favorite part of all has to be the woman's voice comming in at 1:12 which sounded absolutely hypnotizing to me. All the instruments fit very well in the piece although for my taste i think this could use a lot more strings (Violin, chello, etc.) and the people's ambiance sample at the end and middle part seemed just slightly unnecessary to me, i think some nice reverb at the end would of done a bit of a better job to end the piece since it's not concistently clear throughout the piece that the song is being played in that kind of setting.

The mastering in this is good but I believe you really need to adjust your eq because during the flute part there are just too much highs and not enough mids, but that's not true throughout the whole song so be careful how you do it.

Overall it's a great track that I could really appreciate, Keep up the good work!

SoundChris responds:

Hey man,

first i have to apologize for my very late reply. I have been extremely busy the last 1-2 months since i was moving to another city, had lots of job interviews there, had to finish the score of one animation and a game and also had to compose for the NGADM - quite heavy so i have to confess i really forgot about quite a lot reviews of the last 2 months. So pleas forgive me :3

Hm i didnt think much about the tracks speed. Maybe you are right. Its really a little bit fast, but i imagined a really cheerful group of knights that made party quite excessively :D Si i thought the tempo should be a little bit variable. As far as i remember there are ritardanti and accelerandi in the piece to make it more human.

The instrumentation is mainly eduardo tarilontes ERA medieval legends, which is a collection of (i think) over 50 medieval instruments that have a really good quality and also sound very nice out of the box - so i really can recomend this vsti. The sound effects were from the logic pro factory foley library, the shouts from EWQL Symphonic Choirs and last not least the tin whistle is the Embertone Shire whistle which is really awesome and also very affordable.

The womans part was meant to show another scenario. While the first part is the loud celebration in a big hall you hear a door closing at the end and after a short break the voice with the harp sets in. I imagined the woman to sit in a little atrium outside the main festival hall. Its a cold night and you hear also some night creatures in the background and wind to intensify the contemplative mood.

Yeah maybe i overdid it a little bit with the people ambienfes - its always hard in the excitement of composing to have the necessary distance to see if something would feel maybe a little bit odd. THats why i usually take a few days to relisten to a track to finally know if everything fits or not. This time i didnt do that :D

EQing is stil an area i am not really experienced. I try to use this stuff, also multiband compressors, but i know stil too less about it. Hopefully i will learn fast!

Thanks a lof for your great and very detailed constructive review - it was really helpful!

All the best,
Chris

This is absolutely EPIC O-O

Dubstep drums? Hania's voice? EPIC GUITAR SOLOS??? What more could you possibly want! Part of this mix seems a bit muddy but honestly, the strings and voices make is sound so epic that I kinda dug it! The drums were nice and crisp, everything had a nice amount of reverb, just enough to give it an awesome ambiance. It is honestly quite hard for me to find anything wrong with this song! Simply listening to this song made me feel like an accomplished badass. I wish i could give you a more in depth review but I don't have much to work with, with this 45 seconds of awesome sauce. I can say with certainety, tho, that i wouldn't change a thing in this mix ^^

I applaud you both! Bravo.
